Smoothie Bowl Recipe - A Fresh, Creamy Breakfast You Can Customize

Prep Time 10 minutes
Total Time 10 minutes
Servings: 2 servings

Ingredients

  • 1 cup frozen banana slices (about 1 large banana)
  • 1 cup frozen mixed berries (strawberries, blueberries, raspberries)
  • 1/3–1/2 cup liquid (unsweetened almond milk, oat milk, or dairy milk)
  • 1/4 cup Greek yogurt (or coconut yogurt for dairy-free)
  • 1 tablespoon nut or seed butter (peanut, almond, cashew, or sunflower)
  • 1 teaspoon chia seeds or ground flaxseed (optional, for fiber)
  • 1 teaspoon honey or maple syrup (optional, to taste)
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract (optional)
  • Fresh fruit: sliced bananas, berries, kiwi, mango
  • Crunch: granola, toasted coconut, chopped nuts, cacao nibs
  • Seeds: pumpkin seeds, hemp hearts, chia
  • Extras: a drizzle of nut butter, a sprinkle of cinnamon, or a few chocolate chips

Method

  1. Prep your blender. Add the frozen banana and frozen berries to the blender first, so the blades can grab onto the fruit. Use a high-speed blender if you have one.
  2. Add the creamy elements. Spoon in the Greek yogurt and nut or seed butter. These make the bowl thick, silky, and satisfying.
  3. Pour in the liquid. Start with 1/3 cup of milk. You can add more later if needed. Keeping liquid low helps achieve that spoonable texture.
  4. Boost with add-ins. Sprinkle in chia or flax, and add vanilla or a touch of honey if you like it sweeter. These are optional but helpful for flavor and nutrition.
  5. Blend low and slow. Pulse a few times to break up the fruit. Then blend on low, stopping to scrape down the sides. Add a splash more liquid only if the blender struggles. Aim for a thick, soft-serve consistency.
  6. Taste and adjust. If it’s too tart, add a little honey or a couple more banana slices. If it’s too thick to blend, add 1–2 tablespoons of milk and blend again.
  7. Pour and smooth. Transfer to a wide bowl. Use the back of a spoon to swirl the top so your toppings sit nicely.
  8. Add toppings. Layer on fresh fruit, a handful of granola for crunch, and something nutty or seedy for healthy fats. Finish with a light drizzle of nut butter if you want a café-style look.
  9. Serve right away. Smoothie bowls melt quickly. Grab a spoon and enjoy immediately for the best texture.
